Diving into the Numbers
According to UNICEF, an estimated 650 million girls and women alive today were married before their 18th birthday. Forced marriage is prevalent in many parts of the world, including Kenya and India, which are focus areas for the charity.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates that more than 200 million girls and women alive today have undergone FGM. Kenya and certain regions in India have high rates of this harmful practice, making the charity’s work particularly crucial.
UNESCO reports that 129 million girls are out of school globally, with around 49 million of them living in sub-Saharan Africa, where Kenya is located. Providing education can significantly improve these girls' futures.
It's Time for Education
There are still 31 million girls of primary school age out of school.
There are 4 million fewer boys than girls out of school.
