Emily Chepkemoi’s Story – Education as a Lifeline

Emily Chepkemoi is 13 years old. She lost her father six years ago, and her mother is currently unwell, leaving the family in an extremely vulnerable situation. With very limited income and ongoing health challenges at home, Emily’s childhood has been shaped by hardship and uncertainty.

For some time, Emily has been staying with a kind-hearted community member who allowed her to attend a nearby primary school. In return, Emily helped with household duties and responsibilities. While this arrangement enabled her to continue her education, it also meant balancing schoolwork with significant domestic tasks from a very young age.

Despite these challenges, Emily sat her primary examinations this year and passed, earning a place at St Cecilia Chepareria Girls Secondary School. She is due to begin secondary school in January 2024—a vital step that could transform her future.

Sadly, without school fees, Emily’s place is at risk. There is currently no financial support to enable her to enrol, and without help, her education may come to an abrupt end.

Education offers Emily safety, opportunity, and empowerment—not just for herself, but for her siblings too, as her mother’s illness continues to limit the family’s ability to cope. With the support of a compassionate well-wisher, Emily can continue her education, build confidence, and work towards a future filled with purpose and independence.

By supporting Emily, you help protect her right to learn and give her the chance to fulfil her potential.
