Gladys Cheptoo’s Story – Safety, Support, and a New Beginning

Gladys Cheptoo is one of the girls whose life took a powerful turn thanks to timely protection, community action, and access to education. In the photograph, Gladys is standing on the right-hand side, wearing white socks and holding a blue cardboard card, alongside other girls who were supported at the same time.

Before receiving help, Gladys was placed in temporary protective care while arrangements were made to ensure her safety and wellbeing. This period marked a critical turning point — a moment when intervention, compassion, and advocacy came together to protect her future.

Gladys is one of a group of sponsored girls supported by One Woman at a Time. All of the girls in the photograph successfully sat their exams and have since been given the opportunity to continue their education.

Gladys and her peers were preparing to join secondary school in 2023, a milestone that represents far more than academic progress. For these girls, secondary education means safety, stability, confidence, and the chance to build lives shaped by choice rather than circumstance.

Gladys’s story is a reminder of the life-changing impact of timely support. When girls are protected and given access to education, futures are rewritten — not just for one child, but for entire communities.

Through education and care, girls like Gladys are stepping into safer, brighter futures.
